An 'Immersive Van Gogh' exhibit to make its mark in the capital city
Although details have yet to be confirmed, the "Immersive Van Gogh" exhibit will make its way to the capital city in the near future.
Filled with 500,000-cubic-feet of monumental projections that animate Vincent van Gogh's post-impressionist work, the exhibit will allow visitors to wander through various images that highlight his artistic genius.
The installation includes some of the Dutch painter's most iconic works, including the "The Potato Eaters," 1885; "Starry Night," 1889; "Sunflowers," 1888; "The Bedroom," 1889; and others.
This immersive experience is a part of five traveling shows centered on the work of Van Gogh. Other related exhibits include "Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience," "Van Gogh Alive," "Beyond Van Gogh: An Immersive Experience" and "Imagine Van Gogh: The Immersive Exhibition."
While each of the shows are distinct, all of them use large moving images that are projected onto walls, ceilings and floors of a gallery space. The show is currently open in Chicago and San Francisco, with upcoming events in Los Angeles, New York and other cities in the following months.
The exhibition was created and designed by artistic director Massimiliano Siccardi, with a soundtrack by Italian composer Luca Longobardi, who both pioneered immersive digital-art experiences in France. The exhibit was featured on "Emily in Paris," an American comedy-drama series that premiered on Netflix last fall.
Betsy Meacham, spokeswoman for the Columbus Museum of Art, said the immersive exhibit is not affiliated with the center's "Through Vincent’s Eyes: Van Gogh and His Sources" exhibition opening Nov. 12 to Feb. 6, 2022.
