EVSC plans school-specific websites to inform families, students about reopening

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – As the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. finalizes its reopening plan for the fall, schools will develop websites to inform families and students about school-specific procedures and protocols.

The district announced via its Facebook page Monday that all 40 schools will have websites to detail students' arrival, dismissal, class schedules, lunch periods and other daily happenings at each individual school.

The district also noted that EVSC buildings have been analyzed as part of plans to accommodate a reduction in the number of students in classrooms, allowing for proper social distancing.

These details come amid scrutiny from local parents, some of whom have concerns about the district's reopening plans.

The recent stretch of record-breaking increases in COVID-19 cases in the area has not yet impacted EVSC plans to reopen school facilities on Aug. 5.

According to EVSC, schools will socially distance students in classroom settings and use all available space within buildings. Students will be required to wear masks or face shields in areas where distancing is not possible.

Families who opt not to send their children back to traditional school may instead enroll them in the EVSC Virtual Academy. Under certain circumstances, a temporary remote option with a student's traditional school may also be available.
