Comedian Dave Chappelle bringing 'Untitled' documentary to Value City Arena

Comedian Dave Chappelle will be in Columbus next month to screen his self-produced documentary at Value City Arena.

The independent film "Untitled," to be shown in Columbus on Nov. 19, follows Chapelle during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the murder of George Floyd as he provides much needed "economic and comic relief" in the community he calls home, according to a press release.

The project, directed by Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmakers Steven Bognar and Ohio-based Julia Reichert, began as a live comedy show in a neighbor's cornfield, but ultimately became a summer filled with "unforgettable" memories with neighbors, friends and fellow comedians, according to the press release.

'You will not summon me'Dave Chappelle on engaging with trans community; fired Netflix employee speaks

The screening follows recent controversy involving Chappelle.

On Oct. 20, hundreds of Netflix employees staged a walkout following protests over Chappelle's latest Netflix comedy special "The Closer," where the comedian commented on the transgender community.

He doubled down on transphobic jokes during the special, weighing in on comments J.K. Rowling made in December 2019. The "Harry Potter" author conflated sex with gender and defended ideas suggesting that changing one's biological sex was a threat to her own gender identity.

"They canceled J.K. Rowling – my God," Chappelle said. "Effectually she said gender was a fact, the trans community got mad as (expletive), they started calling her a TERF. I'm Team TERF. I agree. I agree, man. Gender is a fact."

In addition to the Value City Arena screening, "Untitled" will also be shown in Cincinnati, Atlanta, Toronto, San Francisco, New York and other cities as part of an arena tour.

Information from the Cincinnati Enquirer was included in this story.
