Dave and Jenny Marrs of 'Fixer to Fabulous' fame to headline Dispatch Home & Garden Show

The path to becoming home-renovation experts was an intentional one for husband and wife Dave and Jenny Marrs, who star in HGTV's "Fixer to Fabulous."

After starting a housing development business in 2004, the Arkansas-based couple soon caught the attention of an HGTV network executive after their names were submitted for a new concept centered on "small town America."

After recording a "sizzle reel," the couple was called to do a pilot.

Having worked on hundreds of projects, both residential and commercial, the Marrs have built up a national TV audience for their charismatic presence and knack for renovating historic and modern homes. And on Sept. 11, the couple hopes to inspire central Ohio homeowners who are interested in renovating their properties during their appearance at the Fall Dispatch Home & Garden Show

"I'm sure they could've found better experts," Dave said jokingly. "But seriously, we've never been to this event before, so we're excited to be a part of it."

On the Simple Bath and Simple Kitchen Home Stage, Dave said attendees will be welcomed with a bevy of ideas and resources to help beautify their spaces without breaking the bank.

Jenny said her hope is that attendees will think more widely about their current or future housing projects. Instead of paying to completely reconstruct or gut out their spaces, she wants them to leave the event with a better sense of what effective remodeling can look like.

"For most people, where they live is the biggest investment that they can make," she said." A house is just like anything else: it needs care and refreshing. And if you have an idea of where trends are happening and know ways to do it affordably, it helps these homeowners."

Thinking deeper about how to effectively remodel a home has grown more significant during the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only are more people spending more time at home, but the real estate market has also "exploded," Dave said.

As the housing market has tightened, homeowners are looking to capitalize on their investment. And Dave said he and Jenny can provide ways to do that.

While they're the experts offering advice, Jenny said the show is a great opportunity for her and Dave to learn new ideas to pass on to other homeowners and incorporate them into their own projects.

"It seems like we always go to these things and learn more than they could," Jenny said. "I love to go. That's how we get ideas, and we're really looking forward to it."
