EVSC Virtual Academy enrollment up at least 1,600%, staff added to help with shift

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the days leading up to the first day of school for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp., so do the number of families shifting to online learning.

EVSC spokesman Jason Woebkenberg said Tuesday more than 1,700 students are enrolled in the EVSC Virtual Academy, a program that normally has between 75-100 students each year. That's an increase of at least 1,600% or as much as 2,167%.

Henderson YMCA welcomes back members ready for exercise

After the closing of the Henderson County Family YMCA during the pandemic, long-time member Anthony Burrus said most of his exercise time has been spent at his kitchen table.

"I've been working a fork or spoon, that's about it," he said jokingly. "It's time to get rid of this quarantine belly."

Henderson County Schools' search for new superintendent slowed by pandemic

Though most of Thursday's virtual meeting took place in executive session, Henderson County Schools officials signaled the district's continued search for a new superintendent.

With current Superintendent Marganna Stanley stepping down June 30 after six years, the HCS Board of Education members and screening committee are narrowing their list of potential candidates.
